Crocodile, despite being a closed off person, acknowledges and says to Mihawk they were alike. Mihawk who has been a lone man, no crew, lives in Kuraigana alone, accepts Crocodile’s alliance. Crocodile? He said he won’t team up with anybody, but he did with Mihawk. Which could mean nothing.

Buggy yelled at Shanks because he thought he would be the next pirate king, he was disappointed because he really saw potential in Shanks, and Shanks, despite Buggy’s stubborn behavior, always tended to him with care. Buggy was sick? He stayed behind with him despite the adventure waiting for him. Which could mean nothing.

Doflamingo is hurt by the fact that Crocodile doesn’t want to form an alliance with him, he asks “you turn me down and now you wanna team up with Whitebeard?” He’s bitter about it. “It makes me jealous” Which could mean nothing.

Mihawk goes out of his way to bring a newspaper to Shanks despite their tension and Shanks was literally the only person who could keep up with him. They represent yin yang, they share a complicated history and the same birthday. Shanks saved Mihawk in more ways than one. Which could mean nothing.

Wayne is twenty three. He’s in a bar with all his friends, dunk more beer than he can afford, and is laughing like the darkness of the world couldn’t possibly touch him.

Benny passes him a smoke, Wayne lights it and tosses his zippo across the table to Lonnie, inhales and lets his head feel spacey for a moment, tunes back into the conversation and makes a stupid joke about Ricky’s inability to get a girl in bed.

Piano Man starts playing, and the same thing happens as every other Friday night spent in this grimy bar; they all start to sing.

Half the boys jump up and put on a show, they’re all laughing and tossing used napkins and stubby lids at them, making fun. Hopper swings his arm over Wayne’s shoulder, leans in and points at the concert before them, tells them they look like a bunch of fags and laughs. Wayne laughs too, but his skin feels hot where Hoppers arm lays. His beer and cigarette stained breath is a cool summer breeze when he looks in Wayne’s direction.

Their proximity is nothing unusual, boys leaning on boys when pissed cause they can’t hold each other up, swaying together from the intoxication, brethren leaning in close to crack crude jokes or drunkenly tell each other how much they secretly care.

But to Wayne, it’s different. Hopper is close and it’s like standing beside a roaring flame with your feet nailed into the ground. He wants to run away but he cannot, he couldn’t if he tried.

Hopper looks at him, his laugh falls short and Wayne’s does too, and just as quickly as he leant forward, he pulls away like nothing happened. They go back to sitting beside one another, careful to let no one know of that filth stained secret they keep locked away in the bin of Wayne’s pickup truck, under the star studded sky in the dark of night, not a soul to be seen for miles.

But under the table, their knees touch through thick, dirt stained jeans. Wayne’s heart races, but he wills it not too. He can’t help it though, his heart is aflame.

They sing along to Piano Man with the rest of their friends, skull another pint, and pretend nothing ever happened. And from then on, as it has for months prior, Wayne cannot listen to Piano Man without tearing his heart apart.

it's so great being a multishipper because you can have so many different pairings that all work in different ways for different reasons. some ships are incredibly angsty and tragic, some are the fluffiest in existence, some are pure crack but wonderful to indulge in, some are the rarest rarepairs to ever rarepair but still make so much sense

When I ship it’s because I think those two characters are so intertwined together and have a bond that nothing can separate. They are separate halves, twin flames, soulmates, preordained by the stars, meant to be, you get it. And I like shipping based on canon content, I just don’t think it’s fun to base a ship off headcanons, but that’s just me. So if you see me ship a pair on this blog, you can be sure, with 100% confidence, that I do not and will never ship either of those characters with someone else.

I like that Gravity Falls is getting a Marauders style redemption arc. It's all about Ford and Stan and Fiddleford and Bill with hints of boyish Dan and Young Lazy Susan and I love it. I love it. The multishiping the major angst the character exploration. 10/10

SEARCHING AO3: A (SLIGHTLY) MORE ADVANCED GUIDE

Disclaimer: This is very very geared towards finding fics about a particular character rather than a pairing. My favourite guys tend to be popular-ish women that appear in a lot of fics but only as supporting characters so I’ve had to become v good at combing for things that actually centre them <3

For this guide we’re gonna use my current hyperfixation: Mel Medarda & see what we can find lol

1. Use the tag filter system as your default! It’s superior in every way to the normal search except for the “any field” section which can be pretty useful but unless you’re using it for SPECIFICALLY THAT, don’t bother.

You can access the tag filter by clicking on any common tag (we’re gonna use “Mel Medarda”) and then hitting filters.

This thing is SO useful! Poke about in the dropdown menus; each of them will have the top 10 associated tags for that category. For example the top additional tags for Mel are Angst; Slow Burn and Fluff because,,, well. yk

+ it shows the number of fics with those tags under the “main” tag of Mel Medarda!

2. Keep an eye out for character specific tags! Now that we’re definitely using the tag filtering system we can start actually filtering through those tags <3

Most characters will have common but specific tags that both name them and imply something about their arc in the fic. A frequent example is something like “X character needs a hug”, or more obviously: “X character centric”.

These are my go-to tags for Mel! Most characters will have a variation of this set + some others (“BAMF character name” is also a pretty common one in older fandoms) and any one of these (INDIVIDUALLY, at most filtered in sets of 2) will lead to a few hundred results. It’s not 100% flawless because a lot of authors over-tag, but a solid 80% of the fics under these tags will at least heavily feature the character you’re looking for.

3. Filter by summary!!

At the bottom of the tag filters there’s a section called search within results. This is your Best Friend.

What this script will do is search for whatever you put in the quotation marks and then only give you fics with that thing in the description. I like to use it for character names but it also does a pretty good job filtering for tropes — try using it for vampires lol

Doing this with Mel narrows down her character tag from 7000+ to just under one and a half thousand fics, all of which at the very least include her name in the description.

4. RAREPAIRS ARE YOUR FRIEND! Canon but only semi-popular ships are infinitely more likely to get tagged in the background than say, for example — melvik (nobody is writing background melvik). This tip only works if you’re willing to multiship for more content of your guy but it is very effective.

5. Related to tip 4: Search by otp! If you’re locked in on a particular pairing that’s more popular, you can search for fics that ONLY include that ship.

This is super useful and also the main reason I don’t tag side pairings in my own fics! Also remember to use this script with ship tag rather than just a character one — otherwise it won’t work.

6. Parent tags exist! This is less of a strategy and requires more trail & error, but lots of tags filter into each other. For another Mel-related example, filtering by the Only Meljay tag would also being up fics tagged with Jayce/Mel Medarda-centric — despite (potentially) not having the original tag you filtered by. This is because Jayce/Mel Medarda-centric is the Parent of the original tag, meaning ao3 has deemed the two tags related enough to appear in each other’s search results.

This is something done manually by ao3 staff so the consistency of parent tags are a little weird sometimes.

More practically, this is an interaction to keep in mind when blocking tags. If for example you were to exclude “Torture” from your search, ao3 would also automatically exclude —

Implied/Referenced Torture

Physiological Torture

Aftermath of Torture

And probably many more.

Even if the broad category of torture isn’t tagged in a fic, the specific referenced type of torture counts — to ao3 — as a tag of torture by itself.

Interestingly, the “sub-categories” of tag don’t feed into each other this way. You can block Physiological Torture and still see fics tagged with Implied/Referenced Torture or Aftermath of Torture.

Knowing this is useful in the sense that the more specific you get with a blocked tag, the less likely you are to accidentally filter out something you would actually be fine with (or inversely blocking a general category you HATE means you don’t have to obsessively filter out every possible iteration of that thing you don’t like).

You can tell tag is a Parent Category by searching for a Sub Category and blocking what you think is the Parent. This will result in 0 results.

Implied/Referenced Torture tag after blocking the Torture tag.

Each of these strategies are things to be done in waves or in combination with one another. Casting a wide net and then narrowing it down is really important, too many tags and you end up with no results.

Ao3 has an INCREDIBLY robust set of archival tools. It’s an amazing site and if a fic exists and you know what you’re doing, you should always be able to find it.

“Do you ever wonder sometimes what the world would feel like if we never…” Lily asked, her thoughts drifting away from her as she lifted the blunt to her lips.

One deep inhale, feeling the smoke seep down into her lungs, her mind clear for the first time in over a week.

“If we never what?” Barty asked, looking up at her from his spot on her lap, her lovely plush thighs the perfect pillow for cloudspotting.

“If we never met. Or… met like this?” She shrugged, delicate fingers placing the blunt back between Barty’s lips for him, watching with sweet, emerald eyes as he inhaled, “If we never did what we did.”

Barty shrugged. He did think about it, often, actually. He likes to torture himself with it, imagining up all the scenarios he never got to have. Thinking about how lost he’d still be, if he never found his compass. He also liked to think about how maybe they shouldn’t have ended up like this, because if anyone ever finds out, bad things could happen. Who knows what they’d do to her, if Barty stepped out of line.

Who knows what they’d do to him, making her watch, like sick bastards.

“I think it would feel sickly.”

“Sickly?” Lily asked, running her lovely fingers through Bartys hair.

“Mhm.” He nodded, “You make everything so lovely. The world feels gross when you’re not there.”

Lily nodded her head, thinking about that for a moment. She stubbed out the joint in the grass beside them, looking out at the sky above, squinting at the blazing sun, high in the sky. It’s warm here, in this meadow, all the way out in Cornwall. They meet somewhere new every time, and never for very long. It’s so hard these days, in the midst of a war. Barty knows Lily is conflicted, puts off meeting him until she can’t take it anymore.

Sleeping with a Death Eater, it’s madness, and Barty knows all about that. But he feels so lucky, because she does meet him, eventually. She craves him too.

“Lily.” Barty muttered, looking up at her with gentle eyes.

He could look at her forever, he thinks, and wouldn't mind at all if time decided to freeze at this very moment, so she could be his view for all eternity. She’s got to be the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. She smiled down at him, nodding for him to continue, lovely fingers still working through his hair.

“I wish I could have had you, before this war began. Wish I could have you. Wish you were mine.”

She bit her lip, soft eyes turning sad as she looked out at the treeline, “James and I…”

Shit. Barty should have seen this coming. He knew it was bound to happen eventually, but he didn’t think it would be so soon.

James has loved her for years, been patient, and waited. He’s right for her, good for her, Barty knows this. Much better than himself. At least James can love her without fear of that very thing getting her killed. But it hurts too much.

“You’ve been seeing him?” He asked, trying not to show how much he hurt.

“Casually.” She swallowed, “Just sex.”

“Is he…”

“He wants more.” Lily swallowed, “He’s asked for more.”

“What’d you tell him?”

“That I’d think about it.” She whispered, “I couldn’t… I’m confused. You confuse me, Barty. This is so hard.. I don’t want to stop, but you’re not good for me. And I’m-“

“I love you.” Barty said, every nerve in his body alight. He’s never said that before, not to Lily, not to anyone. “I’m in love with you. Does that change things? Do you love me too?”

Lily stiffened, “I’m pregnant.”

Barty froze.

“I’m going to have a baby.”

“I-“ Barty started, finding himself silenced.

Fatherhood was never something he thought he’d find himself wanting, but with Lily he seemed to enjoy a lot of new things. He could learn how to be good. He could learn, for her. He’d do anything for her. He’d kill for her, he’d live for her, and he’d be a father, if that’s what she wanted. He’d be the best father in the world.

“Okay.” He nodded, sitting up in the grass to face her, leaning forward into her space. With a gentle caress of her cheek, he kissed her. Lily has taught him so many things, and how to be gentle was one of the first. “I love you, I’ll keep you safe. I’ll find us somewhere safe where no one can hurt you, or our baby-“

“It’s not yours, Barty. James…”

Barty felt his heart split in two, “James?”

“I’m sorry.” She whispered, tears forming in her gorgeous eyes, and Barty longs to gaze into them again. He longs for five minutes ago, when none of this was real. When it was just the two of them, basking in one another’s company. Where did that go? Why did it go? Where is his Lily?

“I don’t under…” Barty started, “Do you love me?”

“I don’t know.” She sobbed, “I’m sorry, I don’t know.”

Barty nodded looking out at the skyline. Pretty trees glowing with the blazing sun. Weather like this doesn’t feel appropriate for a moment so heartbreaking.

“I’m sorry.” She said, leaning over to kiss his cheek.

For the first time in a very long time, Barty began to cry.

“Please don’t say it’s over.” He sobbed, crying into his hands, brittle and empty, “Please just stay with me, stay for a while-“ as he turned his head to beg, he noticed she was gone. Apparated away without him even noticing.

For the first time in a long time, Barty cried until his body shook. His sobs could probably be heard for miles, if people were around, but they picked somewhere quiet and lonely, as they always did. He felt the loneliness now more than ever. No one could feel lonely in the presence of Lily Evans, she shone too brightly, radiated so much warmth.

That afternoon, in the blazing sun, Barty lost a little piece of his sanity. He drove himself to madness, clawing to find anything that somewhat resembled the comfort she provided. He thought nothing would feel lovely ever again, the world permanently etched a sickly green.

The day that Lily died, he lost any drop of sanity he had left.

Lily: "you were a wonderful experience"

And Barty; "you were everything"

As someone who have roots in the buddie fandom, I remember my own angst in the beginning, when I took an instant liking to Tommy/bucktommy and there I was, wallowing in my sadness over either buddie never happening or bucktommy breaking up. The Drama!😆

The toxic buddies soon had me adding some filters to my ao3/blog and then I had to add more and more and MORE, until I just stopped shipping buddie altogether. I wonder if I'd stayed a multishipper with buddies acting normally, but considering how s8 turned out (Eddie, go get therapy!), probably not.

I hope s9 will treat Buck with kindness and love, because he deserves that.🥰 (And some "angst with a happy ending"-bucktommy, because I deserve that.😁)

My multiship coffee shop AU Demolition Coffee has officially wrapped! What started as a 5k one-shot 3 years ago, has grown to 20 chapters and 74k words.

It's told mostly from the POV of Adam, who runs a coffee shop. The fic is rated M for language and fade-to-blacks. But it's a slow burn with romance, meta humor, secret identities, light angst with a happy ending. Featuring Midam, Sabriel, Crobby, Werepire, and married Destiel being everyone's adorable problem. As perhaps the biggest multishipper in the local area, I say go wild hahaha! If you’re struggling to put into words how you interpret their dynamic that’s not just “I ship it��, smth like “I think there’s potential there” or “I like them together” or “Their dynamic really catches my interest” can also work in the meantime!

In terms of the ship is to you in the moment, I say it depends on what story is being told at the moment as well! Some stories like to focus on Sara growing fond of Itto’s antics, while others focus on Sara healing with a like-minded soul like Kokomi, both of which are really cool and interesting!!!

i’m struggling to decide if i’m an ittosara shipper or not… on the one hand kokosara is one of my favorite ships but on the other hand sara and itto have a very interesting dynamic but i can’t decide if i would like them more platonically or romantically? i think they have at least some potential either way but i guess it will be easier to figure out once his quest comes out and his personality is more clear
